Iheanacho, Ndidi miss out on Champions League in dramatic Premier League finale

Chelsea, Liverpool pick up the final Champions League places

Super Eagles duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification with their English side, Leicester City, after the Foxes were defeated 4-2 by Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium.

Tied in a three-way battle with Liverpool, who won 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace thanks to a Sadio Mane brace and Chelsea, who were defeated 2-1 at Villa Park by Aston Villa, Leicester City needed to win against Spurs to secure their Champions League place.

Jamie Vardy put the Foxes in front from the penalty spot before Harry Kane equalised for the home side before halftime. Vardy once again scored from the spot to put the home side in front for the second time before an implosion saw the Foxes collapse in front of their own fans. First, Kasper Schmeichel punched the ball into his own net, handing Spurs an easy equaliser, before Gareth Bale scored a brace from two late counter-attacks as Leicester City went in search of a goal to salvage their hopes.

Results elsewhere meant Leicester were to rue their inability to close out the game against Tottenham, as Chelsea were defeated by Aston Villa. The Foxes finish in 5th place for a second successive season, having spent so long in the top four.
