Imama Amapakabo Spotted in Uyo, Rejects Kano Pillars Move to Lead Abia Warriors’ Historic Continental Campaign

Abia Warriors head coach, Imama Amapakabo, has turned down an approach from Kano Pillars to remain with the Umuahia-based side, as they prepare for their maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The Warriors are currently in Uyo for pre-season training and faced Nationwide League side KMK in a friendly on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at the Uyo Township Stadium, which they won 1-0. After the game, Amapakabo was seen addressing his players, in a moment captured by SportsRation correspondent Nsikakabasi Akpan.

The club’s preparations have been boosted by the arrival of several new signings, including at least two key players from neighbouring Enyimba FC, as the squad continues to strengthen ahead of their historic continental debut.
Earlier reports suggested that Amapakabo was close to joining Kano Pillars, with a deal expected to be finalised this weekend. However, sources now confirm that the tactician has chosen to stay with Abia Warriors to lead their first-ever charge on the continental stage.
Amapakabo’s decision comes after a challenging season in which he guided the team to a fourth-place league finish, securing a CAF Confederation Cup ticket. His commitment to the project is seen as a major boost for the club’s ambition, especially given his instrumental role in building the current squad.

Fans Welcome Decision
News of his U-turn has been met with excitement among Warriors fans. “This is exactly what we wanted,” a supporter in Umuahia told SportsRation. “Imama gave us this historic moment, and we want him to be the one to lead us in Africa.”
With pre-season preparations now in full swing, all eyes are on how Amapakabo and his reinforced squad will fare in their CAF Confederation Cup debut.
