Injury Blow: Akor Adams Ruled Out for Rest of the Season

Sevilla striker Akor Adams will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after suffering a serious thigh injury, according to a statement by the Club.

The 25-year-old Nigerian picked up the injury during Sevilla’s 2-1 loss to Atlético Madrid. He has been diagnosed with a rectus femoris muscle injury in his right thigh, and the club has confirmed he will be out for at least two months – ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

“Adams will begin his recovery process this Wednesday,” Sevilla’s medical team said in a statement.

It’s a huge setback for both Adams and Sevilla, as the striker had only joined the Spanish club in January from Montpellier for €5.5 million. He was brought in to help solve Sevilla’s goal-scoring problems in their battle to avoid relegation.

However, his time in Spain has been disrupted by injuries. After making his debut in a 0-0 draw against Getafe on 1 February, Adams suffered an injury just days later that kept him out for over a month. Since returning, he has made only three more appearances — against Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis, and Atlético Madrid — and is yet to score for the club.

This latest injury adds to Sevilla’s growing list of sidelined players. Fellow January signing Rubén Vargas is also out for the rest of the season, while Chidera Ejuke, Saúl Ñíguez, and Tanguy Nianzou are also out with long-term injuries.

It’s more bad news for Sevilla head coach Xavi García Pimienta, who is under pressure to turn things around. The team’s next match against Valencia on Friday could be crucial for both the club’s survival and the manager’s job.

Despite the challenges, Sevilla remain eight points above the relegation zone, helped by results elsewhere. But with key players missing and form inconsistent, their safety is far from guaranteed.

Adams, a former Flying Eagles striker, made 47 appearances in Ligue 1 for Montpellier, scoring 11 goals. So far, he has only managed four La Liga matches for Sevilla, starting once and coming off the bench three times. His last appearance was a full 90-minute outing against Atlético Madrid on 6 April.
