Injury Forces Novak Djokovic to Withdraw from Serbia’s Davis Cup Tie
World number six Novak Djokovic has pulled out of Serbia’s Davis Cup first-round qualifier against Denmark due to injury, the country’s tennis federation (TSS) confirmed.
Djokovic was set to compete in the tie, scheduled for January 31 to February 2 in Copenhagen, but he suffered a hamstring injury during his Australian Open semi-final match against Alexander Zverev last week.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion faced criticism after retiring from the match and later responded by sharing an MRI scan of his injured left hamstring, captioning it: “Thought I’d leave this here for all the sports injury ‘experts’ out there.”
Djokovic, 37, played a key role in Serbia’s Davis Cup triumph in 2010 when they defeated France in the final.
Despite his absence, Serbia’s captain Viktor Troicki remains confident. “We are weakened without Novak, but we are still aiming for victory. The Danes have a strong player in Holger Rune, but our team is also strong, and I believe in my players,” he said.
