Iroha Urges Super Eagles to Go All Out in Iran, Jordan Friendlies

Former Super Eagles defender Benedict Iroha has called on Nigeria to approach their upcoming friendly matches with full commitment despite missing out on the World Cup.

Iroha, who made 35 appearances for the national team and was part of the squad that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, believes the Super Eagles must respond positively when they face Iran and Jordan.

Nigeria recently failed to secure a place at the next World Cup after their appeal was rejected, ending hopes of participating in the tournament. Attention has now shifted to future competitions, including the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

Speaking on the importance of the friendly matches, Iroha said games involving the Super Eagles should never be treated lightly, regardless of their status.

He explained that Nigerians are very passionate about the national team, and every match attracts strong interest both at home and abroad. According to him, supporters always expect the team to perform well.

Iroha admitted that it is disappointing not to see Nigeria at the World Cup, adding that the friendly matches would have provided a useful preview of the team’s strength on the global stage.

Instead, he noted that the games may remind fans of what the country will miss by not being part of the tournament.

Nigeria will face Iran on Friday before taking on Jordan next Tuesday as they continue preparations for upcoming competitions.
