‘It is a Penalty’ – Osimhen Speaks Out After Referee’s Decision
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen believes he should have been awarded a penalty during Galatasaray’s 2-2 draw against Eyüpspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.
Osimhen, leading Galatasaray’s attack, couldn’t find the back of the net despite his team scoring twice. The Turkish champions had several chances to secure a comfortable victory but failed to capitalise, allowing Eyüpspor to share the points.
The draw means Galatasaray dropped two valuable points in the title race but remains top of the league with 35 points, six ahead of Fenerbahçe and Samsunspor.
After the match, Osimhen expressed frustration over a penalty claim that was ignored by referee Oguzhan Çakir. The incident occurred in the 21st minute when Lucas Claro knocked him down in the box.
Speaking to Turkish media outlet Haber Sari Kirmizi, Osimhen said, “Of course, it was a penalty.” Galatasaray players protested the decision, but the referee waved their appeals away.
The match saw several contentious decisions by referee Çakir, with Turkish media highlighting the penalty incident involving Osimhen as a key moment.
Despite the setback, Galatasaray remains in a strong position at the top of the table, but Osimhen and his teammates will hope for better decisions in future matches.
