Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has beaten Alamian Nima in the round of 64 at the 2019 ITTF World championship in Budapest to set up a round 32 clash against the highest ranked player Fan Zhendong.
Aruna Quadri had to dig deep before securing his passage into the next round where the world number one is waiting.
Aruna Quadri lost the first game, won the next two, lost the fourth game, won the fifth game and lost the sixth game before winning the deciding seventh (11-9 10-12 11-13 11-8 5-11 13-11 10-12) game for a place against the championship favourite.
Aruna Quadri who is the only African player left in the tournament must produce magic for him to book his place in the last 16 after booking a date with China’s Fan Zhendong who dispatched Portugal’s Monteiro Joao in straight set in the round of 64.
