Iwobi, Bassey Key as Fulham Aim to Stop Liverpool’s Away Record Bid

Fulham stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey will play key roles on Sunday as the Cottagers try to stop Liverpool from making Premier League history.

The Reds travel to Craven Cottage hoping to finish the season without losing any away matches. If they avoid defeat against Fulham — and in their remaining away games at Leicester City, Chelsea and Brighton — they’ll become just the fifth team to go unbeaten away from home in an entire English top-flight season.

Liverpool, now managed by Arne Slot, sit top of the table with an 11-point lead after Arsenal dropped points at Everton on Saturday. With only eight games left (seven for Arsenal), the title is within Liverpool’s reach.

So far, Liverpool have 10 wins and 5 draws from 15 away games. Their only loss in the league this season came at home against Nottingham Forest.

But Fulham have other ideas.

Marco Silva’s side are ninth on the table and still have slim hopes of pushing into the European spots. They’re just six points behind fifth-placed Manchester City, although clubs like Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brentford are also in the race.

Fulham’s home form has been decent — six wins, five draws and four losses in 15 games. They’ve also won two of their last three matches at Craven Cottage and will be hoping to make it three out of four against Liverpool.

Nigeria internationals Iwobi and Bassey are expected to be in the starting line-up. Iwobi’s energy and attacking movement will be important in midfield, while Bassey will need to be solid at the back to contain Liverpool’s front line, which could include the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez or Diogo Jota — who scored in the reverse fixture at Anfield that ended 2-2.

Will history be made or halted?
Liverpool are chasing a rare away record achieved only by Manchester United (2020-21), Arsenal (2001-02 and 2003-04), and Preston North End (1888-89).

But with Fulham motivated and in good home form, and with Iwobi and Bassey eager to shine, the Cottagers might just spoil Liverpool’s plans.

Prediction: Fulham 1-1 Liverpool
Expect a tight contest in West London, with Fulham doing just enough to earn a share of the points and deny Liverpool another away win.
