Iwobi, Bright Osayi-Samuel hail retiring former teammate team Ozil

Super Eagles of Nigeria players Alex Iwobi and Bright Osayi-Samuel have in separate comments hailed Mezut Ozil following announcement of his retirement from active football.

Former Real Madrid, Arsenal, Fernabache and Germany legend Mesut Özil on Wednesday March 22, 2023 announced he was ending his playing career aged 34.

Alex Iwobi and Osayi-Samuel played together with Özil during his time at Arsenal and Fenerbache and so had direct contact with the 2014 World Cup winner.

Iwobi and Ozil spent six years together at Arsenal. Both players were part of Arsenal`s FA Cup title wining squad in 2016/2017 while Osayi-Samuel spent eighteen months with Ozil in Turkey.

Özil took to social media today to announce the end of his career at the age of 34, with injuries playing a huge role in his decision to call time on his career.

Ozil wrote “I’ve had the privilege to be a professional football player for almost 17 years now and I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity,”

“But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, it’s become more and more clear that it’s time to leave the big stage of football.”

In his comment on me Ozil`s retirement post, Osayi-Samuel wrote “Living Legend, Thank you for a great career”.

Iwobi was also brief with response, when he wrote “Legend” Both Nigerian players are currently in camp with the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers vs Guinea-Bissau.
