Iwobi hails ” Patient man ” Arsene Wenger for professional breakthrough

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi has hailed former Arsenal manager for giving him his professional breakthrough at Arsenal in 2015.

On​ Premier League’s Behind the Game – a content series hosted by Arsenal legend Ian Wright, Iwobi admitted he was fortunate to get a first team chance under “Patient man” Arsene Wenger that year.

His first-team debut came in Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Sheffield United in a League Cup encounter on October 27, 2015.

Iwobi, who is currently on the books of  Everton Football Club, joined Arsenal`s Hale End Academy aged 9. the midfielder rose through the Gunners U-18s, U-19s and U-21s before he got his first team chance.

​​”It wasn’t expected because I got favoured at the time as there were so many talented people. Most of them had to go on loan but I didn’t have to, so I was always training and waiting for my chance,” Iwobi said.

“Arsene Wenger at the time was a very patient man, gave me the opportunity and I was able to take it”

​Iwobi went on to make 149 appearances for the North London outfit scoring 15-goals and assisting 25 others before his summer transfer to Everton Football Club in 2019.
