Iwobi, Osimhen on target as Nigeria take a 2-1 lead against Sierra Leone at Half Time
Simon Moses provided assists to both goals
Alex Iwobi and Victor Osimhen have helped Nigeria come from a goal down to secure a 2-1 lead against Sierra Leone at the end of the first 45 minutes of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria and Leone Stars were involved in the first game of group A at the Abuja Stadium on Thursday.
Nigeria were the better team in the opening exchanges but it was the visitors who drew the first blood in the 11th minute through Jonathan Morsay whose flying header went beyond Francis Uzoho.
In the 15th minutes, the Leone Stars had the chance to score their second goal but their effort was stopped by Francis Uzoho and the goalpost.
Just one minute after missing their opportunity to go two up, Nigeria punished their visitors with an equalizer.
Alex Iwobi who was playing in the midfield two alongside Joe Aribo, combined with Simon Moses before scoring a beautiful goal to equalize for Nigeria.
