Iwobi Reacts After Fulham’s FA Cup Exit to Crystal Palace

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has spoken out after Fulham’s painful 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Iwobi and his Nigerian teammate Calvin Bassey were both on the pitch as Fulham’s cup hopes came to an end at Craven Cottage.

Crystal Palace dominated the match from start to finish, sealing their place in the semi-finals with a commanding display. British-born Nigerian Eberechi Eze opened the scoring early in the first half before setting up Ismaïla Sarr just four minutes later for the second goal.

Fulham struggled to respond, and Palace remained in control. Eddie Nketiah wrapped up the victory with a late goal, taking advantage of a defensive mistake to beat Bernd Leno at the near post.

The result was disappointing for Fulham, who had hoped to make history by progressing further in the competition. Despite Iwobi and Bassey’s efforts, they could not match Palace’s intensity and quality.

After the match, Iwobi shared his frustration on social media, posting: “Gutted… Appreciate The Support.” His message reflected his disappointment but also gratitude for the fans who backed the team throughout their FA Cup journey.

Iwobi has been an important player for Fulham this season, playing a key role in both domestic and cup competitions. However, this loss shows the challenges Marco Silva’s side faces in competing at the top level.

Meanwhile, Bassey also had a tough night, unable to stop Palace’s attack, which was led by Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta, who returned from injury to make his first start since the previous round.

With their FA Cup run over, Fulham must now turn their focus back to the Premier League. Iwobi and Bassey will be keen to recover quickly and help their team secure better results in the coming weeks.

While Iwobi endured a difficult weekend, other Super Eagles stars like Cyriel Dessers and Kelechi Iheanacho impressed for their clubs, showing the highs and lows of Nigerian players in Europe.
