Jacob Murphy Shines in Newcastle’s Big Win Against Crystal Palace
Newcastle United forward Jacob Murphy impressed again on Wednesday night, scoring and assisting in his team’s 5-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace at St James’ Park.
Murphy, who is reportedly being watched by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, opened the scoring in the 14th minute. He calmly finished after being put through on goal.
Later in the match, Murphy provided a perfect cross for Fabian Schär to head in Newcastle’s fourth goal.
Harvey Barnes and Alexander Isak also scored for the Magpies, while Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi scored an own goal in the 38th minute to make it 2-0 for the home side.
Murphy has now scored eight goals and provided eleven assists in 29 league matches this season. His strong performances have helped Newcastle fight for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
His good form has caught the attention of Chelle, who is looking to strengthen Nigeria’s attack as the team aims to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Chelle, who is from Mali, visited London in February and is said to be exploring ways to convince Murphy to play for Nigeria.
Murphy was born in England and was first called up by the Three Lions in 2013. He is also eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland.
