Jannik Sinner training return date revealed

Jannik Sinner will not be able to compete in any professional tennis tournaments until May 4, after agreeing to a deal with WADA.

The world number 1 will miss six tournaments during this period, which is not the ideal situation for him, especially since he was fully cleared by an independent court in the first instance.

However, it would have been too risky for the Italian to go to trial at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, as a one-year suspension would have been a major setback.

After advice from his legal team, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria decided that a three-month suspension was a reasonable compromise, especially since no Grand Slam tournaments are taking place during this time. He will return at the Rome Masters 1000, where he can play in front of his fans and prepare for the French Open.

Additionally, recent results from Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz have made it very likely that Sinner will remain at the top of the ATP rankings until his return.

In other news, the 3-time Grand Slam champion will not be allowed to train at any affiliated facilities until April 13 but can still be supported by his team.

Yesterday, ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’ reported that Sinner would train at the Monte Carlo Country Club during this period, as he is not affiliated with the French federation.

According to ‘La Gazzetta’, during the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, the world number 1 would move to Marbella.

However, the Monte Carlo Country Club has denied these rumours in an official statement.

“The Monte Carlo Country Club is affiliated with both the French and Monegasque federations. Despite being a private club, it is not exempt from membership requirements,” the statement said.

“This club is affiliated with the Monegasque federation because it is the Club of the Principality, while it is affiliated with the FFT because it is built on French territory in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.”
