Jannik Sinner Wins First Wimbledon Title After Beating Carlos Alcaraz

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has won his first Wimbledon title by beating two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

The 23-year-old Italian won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to end a five-match losing streak against the Spaniard. Just over a month ago, Alcaraz had beaten Sinner in a dramatic French Open final.

This win makes Sinner the first Italian ever to win a Wimbledon singles title. It’s also his first major victory on grass, as his previous Grand Slam titles had come on hard courts.

The match lasted just over three hours—much shorter than their five-set battle in Paris. Sinner celebrated with both arms raised, showing how much the win meant after bouncing back from nearly losing in the fourth round earlier in the tournament.

He now has three of the four Grand Slam titles: the Australian Open, US Open, and now Wimbledon. Only the French Open remains for him to complete a career Grand Slam.

Sinner said after the match:

“I had a tough loss in Paris. But it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, what matters is learning from it and working hard. I’m very happy I stayed calm—this is an amazing feeling.”

How the Match Played Out

The final was the first at Wimbledon between two players born in the 2000s. Sinner broke Alcaraz early for a 3-2 lead, but Alcaraz responded strongly and took the first set.

Alcaraz hit some of his fastest-ever serves, reaching 140mph. He even won one of the best rallies of the match with a brilliant backhand winner.

But in the second set, Alcaraz started with a poor service game, and Sinner took full advantage. The Italian showed emotion, shouting “Let’s go!” after saving a break point.

At 5-4 in the second set, just as Sinner was about to serve, a champagne cork flew from the crowd and nearly hit him. The crowd booed, and the umpire gave a warning to the fans.

Despite the distraction, Sinner held his nerve. He chased down a drop shot, hit a forehand winner to earn set point, and followed it up with another winner to level the match.

He went on to win the next two sets, both by the same 6-4 scoreline, to seal a historic victory.

Recent Grand Slam Champions

Sinner and Alcaraz have now won the last seven Grand Slam titles between them:

  • Wimbledon 2025 – Sinner

  • French Open 2025 – Alcaraz

  • Australian Open 2025 – Sinner

  • US Open 2024 – Sinner

  • Wimbledon 2024 – Alcaraz

  • French Open 2024 – Alcaraz

Sinner is now just one Grand Slam title behind Alcaraz, with a new rivalry well and truly alive.
