Jayson Tatum makes NBA history with impressive numbers as Celtics bow to Cavaliers
Jayson Tatum has made NBA history. The Boston Celtics lost an important game on Friday night to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are just ahead of them in the Eastern Conference standings, with a final score of 123-116.
The Celtics were in control for most of the game, but the Cavaliers made a strong comeback and managed to take the win, keeping them at a safe distance from the Celtics in the race for the No. 1 seed.
It was a tough loss for the Celtics, but in the first half, it seemed like Jayson Tatum was about to have an outstanding game.
Tatum impressed the home crowd, especially in the first half, where he scored 30 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and made seven assists.
According to the NBA’s X account, this is the first time in the play-by-play era (since 1997-98) that these numbers have been recorded in a single half.
In the end, Tatum finished with 46 points from 19 shots out of 37, 16 rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks in 41 minutes.
Tatum started strong and helped the Celtics take a big lead in the first quarter. Unfortunately, they couldn’t maintain it.
At 26 years old, Tatum said he would have preferred a win over his impressive performance. But that wasn’t the only story surrounding him that night.
A video went viral during the first quarter when, after making a three-pointer, Tatum waved his arm dismissively and shouted something that appeared to be “F*** out of here, man,” as the Cavaliers called a timeout.
Many fans on social media criticised Tatum for this, especially since the Celtics ended up losing the game.
Tatum may face criticism for various reasons, but there’s no doubt he’s having a great season.
So far this season, Tatum is averaging 27.0 points per game, 8.8 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.1 steals, shooting 45.5% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range over 57 games and 36.4 minutes of play.
He’ll aim to help his team bounce back with a win on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.
