Jonathan Alukwu joins Austrian club after stellar NPFL season

Sporting Lagos forward Jonathan Alukwu, known as “The Barbie Boy,” has made a significant career move by joining Austrian club ASKO OEDT.

This follows his outstanding debut season in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), where he scored 12 goals and provided two assists.

The 21-year-old’s impressive performance earned him the Player of the Season award for Sporting Lagos. Despite interest from top-tier Nigerian clubs, Alukwu opted to take his talents to Europe, signing with the Austrian third-division side.

Alukwu has already been registered for the upcoming season, marking the beginning of his European football journey. His transfer highlights the increasing talent pool in Nigerian football and the growing ambition of young players seeking opportunities in European leagues.

Despite Alukwu’s efforts, Sporting Lagos were relegated back to the Nigeria National League after their debut season. Nonetheless, the club continues to produce talented players, with Alukwu’s move to Europe serving as a testament to their development program.
