Jota beats Adebayo to Premier League award
Liverpool’s Diogo Jota has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for January 2024, despite tough competition from the likes of Elijah Adebayo, who is eligible to represent Nigeria.
Jota’s impressive performances throughout January, where he contributed three goals and two assists in three appearances, earned him his first-ever Player of the Month award. His stellar displays played a crucial role in Liverpool’s success during the month.
Despite Jota’s victory, Adebayo’s noteworthy achievements should not be overlooked.
The Luton Town striker was fantastic as he scored his first career hat-trick in a memorable 4-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion.
His performance demonstrated his prowess as a forward, although it was not enough to secure him the award over Jota.
The competition for the January Player of the Month award was fierce, with a six-man shortlist that included prominent names such as Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Magalhaes, Richarlison, and Jota’s Liverpool teammate Conor Bradley.
Jota’s win follows Mohamed Salah’s success in October, making him the second Liverpool player to claim the award this season.
The winner was determined through a combination of public votes on the EA SPORTS website and input from a panel of football experts.
For Elijah Adebayo, his significant display in January will lead to discussions over his International allegiance with the forward eligible to represent, Nigeria and England.
