Jules Kounde Fires Barcelona to Copa del Rey Glory Against Real Madrid
Jules Kounde scored a stunning extra-time goal as Barcelona beat Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey in a thrilling Clasico in Seville.
The match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, and with penalties looking likely, Kounde collected the ball 22 yards out and smashed it into the bottom corner to win the game for Barcelona.
Barca were much the better team in the first half and took the lead through Pedri’s brilliant first-time shot from outside the box, after a clever cut-back from Lamine Yamal.
Real Madrid improved after Kylian Mbappe came on in the second half. Mbappe scored a free-kick he had won, curling it in off the post.
Aurelien Tchouameni then headed Real into the lead from an Arda Guler corner.
But Barcelona fought back, with Ferran Torres chasing a long ball from Yamal, rounding Thibaut Courtois, and slotting home to make it 2-2.
Hansi Flick’s side thought they had a late chance to win when they were given a penalty after Raul Asencio tackled Raphinha, but the decision was overturned after a long VAR check.
The game went into extra time, and Kounde’s fourth goal of the season proved to be the winner.
In the final moments, Antonio Rudiger was shown a straight red card from the Real Madrid bench, ending a fiery Clasico.
It was the first Clasico final in a major competition since 2014, when Gareth Bale scored a famous late winner for Real Madrid.
