Kabiru Dogo risks sack as Nasarawa United lose again
Nasarawa United’s head coach, Kabiru Dogo, is on the verge of losing his job after the Solid Miners suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Just over a week ago, the club’s management issued Dogo a three-match ultimatum to reverse the team’s poor form. Unfortunately, the team has lost both matches since, including a 2-1 defeat to Akwa United in Uyo and a 2-0 loss to Plateau United in Jos today.
The pressure is now immense as Dogo prepares to lead Nasarawa United in their next game against Bendel Insurance, a team that recently changed their head coach and responded with a victory.
Chairman Issues Stern Warning
Speaking recently, Nasarawa United Chairman Solomon Babanjah did not mince words about the team’s current struggles:
“We are not satisfied with the way things are going, and as a Management, we can’t fold our arms and watch the team slide down the mucky road. Immediate improvement is non-negotiable. We expect tangible results within our next three matches. Failure to deliver will necessitate drastic measures.”
Dogo Needs a Miracle
Nsikakabasi Akpan of SportsRation believes Dogo is in desperate need of a miracle to save his job. Akpan noted that Dogo took a significant gamble when he left fellow NPFL side Kwara United to join Nasarawa United just weeks before the 2024/2025 season kicked off. This late move meant Dogo wasn’t part of the team’s recruitment process, and he’s still struggling to understand his squad’s strengths and weaknesses.
Akpan wrote:
“Dogo needs nothing short of a miracle to avoid the sledgehammer. He walked into a storm by joining Nasarawa United so close to the season, and with no time to build chemistry, the team’s poor form isn’t entirely surprising.”
Big Test Ahead
Dogo’s next game against Bendel Insurance is critical. Bendel Insurance, now rejuvenated under caretaker coach Greg Ikhenoba, will pose a significant challenge for the struggling Solid Miners.
The outcome of this match could seal Kabiru Dogo’s fate, as the ultimatum looms large and fans await a turnaround that seems increasingly unlikely.
Akpan adds
“Dogo’s situation is unfortunate. He inherited a squad he didn’t build, but results are all that matter in football. The next game is a make-or-break moment.”
“Leaving Kwara United for Nasarawa United was a bold move, but it’s backfiring. The team’s performance reflects the chaos of his late appointment.”
“Bendel Insurance are finding their rhythm under new management. It’s hard to see Nasarawa United pulling off a win against them.”
“This is the NPFL — surprises happen! If Dogo can inspire the players, they might pull off a shock result. But the odds aren’t in his favour.”
