Tottenham Hotspur stars Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have rewritten a bit of Premier League history in the wake of their 4-0 thrashing of Leeds United on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur dispatched Leeds United with ease at Elland Road thanks to goals from Matt Doherty, Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
The fourth goal scored by Son in the 85th of the match was the goal that wrote both his and Harry Kane’s names into the league’s history books.
Kane sent a terrific through ball to Son, sending the Korean forward through on goal. Son nonchalantly finished above Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier to round off the scoring for Antonio Conte’s men. It was the 37th goal that Son and Kane had combined to score in the Premier League.
The Tottenham Hotspur duo equalled the record of 36 goals previously held by legendary Chelsea duo Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard when they combined for Tottenham’s second goal in their 3-2 win over Manchester City last week.
Kane and Son have struck up a partnership since the South Korean arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in 2015. After the match, both men stated their pleasure at having set a new record in the league.
“We’ve been playing with other now for a long, long time and we just understand each other’s games well.” Kane said.
“When I drop deep, Sonny knows where to run and hopefully I’m able to put him in and you saw that for the last goal.”
“We enjoy playing together. The most important thing is the team though and this was another fantastic display by everyone.”
The nature of their performance against Leeds United will ease some of the tension that was building up at the club after Conte’s midweek outburst.
