Kanu Nwankwo congratulates Ademola Lookman on CAF Player of the Year win
Super Eagles legend Kanu Nwankwo has congratulated Ademola Lookman for winning the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
Lookman, 27, was recognized for his impressive 2024, which included a silver medal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and a hat-trick in the Europa League final. He beat strong competition from players like Achraf Hakimi and Serhou Guirassy to win the prestigious award.
Kanu, who has won the award twice (1996 and 1998), shared a message to welcome Lookman into the exclusive club of Nigerian football stars who have earned the title of Africa’s best. Kanu praised Lookman’s hard work and dedication, calling it an inspiration for young Nigerians.
He said, “Dear Lookman, millions across our continent were happy to see you showcase your God-given talents on the football field. We became even happier when you were crowned King of African Football.”
Kanu added that Lookman’s win shows what can be achieved through commitment, encouraging young players to keep pushing forward despite challenges.
“Having won the award twice, I know how much it means to Nigeria and Africa. We can achieve it, just like Ademola Lookman did,” Kanu said.
Lookman now joins the list of Nigerian football greats who have won the award, including Kanu, Victor Osimhen, Victor Ikpeba, Emmanuel Amuneke, and Rashidi Yekini.
