Kanu Nwankwo reacts to 2029 AFCON bid Ambassadorial appointment

Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has expressed his delight at being appointed by Ethiopia as an Ambassador for their 2029 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Bid Committee.
This appointment, he believes, is not only a personal honor but also a positive reflection on Nigeria.

Kanu who was key to Nigeria’s U-23 Dream Team Olympic games gold medal win in 1996, highlighted the significance of this recognition.

He said, “It’s a great one, knowing that a Prime Minister of a great country like Ethiopia wants the Legends of the game of football to come.”

Kanu shared his admiration for Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, who invited football legends to support the country’s bid. “The Ethiopian Prime Minister invited us to come. When we got there, we saw a young man who has a great vision, who loves football and there and then, he appointed us as Ambassadors of Ethiopia for their Bid for the 2029 AFCON Hosting Right,” he said.

For Kanu, this appointment is a testament to his achievements and the recognition of Nigerian talent on an international stage. “For me, I believe it’s a great thing and I thank God for that because you have to be somebody before they can recognize you and that’s good for Nigeria that Kanu is being recognized and appointed as Ambassador of Ethiopia 2029 AFCON Bid,” he remarked.

At the moment, Kanu Nwankwo is chairman of Nigeria Premier Football League club, Enyimba FC.
