Kanu’s Enyimba Signs 36-Year-Old Ex-Super Eagles Striker Brown Ideye
Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu and Enyimba Football Club have announced the signing of former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye to strengthen their squad.
The 36-year-old striker was unveiled by the club on social media, with Enyimba expressing excitement about the experience and professionalism Ideye brings to their team.
In their statement, the club said, “We are delighted to officially announce the addition of former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye to our team. We look forward to the experience and professionalism he will bring to our quest for success in the remaining games this season, especially under the new coach.”
A Homecoming for Ideye
This move marks a return to Nigerian football for Ideye after 17 years. The striker last played for Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022 and has signed a contract with Enyimba until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Ideye began his career with Ocean Boys before moving abroad in 2006, where he played in top leagues like the English Premier League and France’s Ligue 1.
The signing follows a failed deal with Rivers United in October, which was managed by former Enyimba coach Finidi George.
New Chapter for Enyimba
Ideye will wear the number 34 jersey and play under a new coach after Enyimba parted ways with 32-year-old Yemi Olanrewaju. Olanrewaju left his role following a poor run of nine games without a win, leaving Enyimba in midtable and out of the NPFL title race.
Enyimba’s supporters are hopeful that Ideye’s arrival will help the team rediscover their scoring form and improve their fortunes in the league.
A Trend Among Former Stars
Ideye joins other former Super Eagles players, including Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi, who have returned to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Fans are eager to see how the veteran striker will contribute to the club’s success in the coming matches.
