Katsina United Confirms Death of Chinedu Ozor, Urges Public to Stop Rumours

Katsina United have confirmed the death of their player, Chinedu Ozor, after he collapsed during a pre-season friendly match against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
Ozor collapsed less than 10 minutes into the match on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Despite efforts to save his life, the player sadly passed away.
The club issued the clarification on Wednesday following reports on social media claiming that Ozor had regained consciousness or “come back to life” after the incident.
Katsina United said those reports were false, explaining that Ozor never regained consciousness.

According to the club, Ozor’s family, shocked by the incident and hoping that he was still alive, requested further medical confirmation before his body was taken to the morgue.
The club said the family’s moment of hope should not be turned into reports that the player survived.
“He did not regain consciousness. He passed away,” the club stated.
Katsina United appealed to the public to stop spreading rumours and unverified reports about the player’s death.
The club said Ozor’s teammates, friends and the entire club are grieving, while his family is facing an extremely painful loss.
The club also urged the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy and allow Ozor to be remembered with dignity.
“Behind every post, every headline and every video is a grieving family,” the club said.
Katsina United prayed for strength for Ozor’s family and asked that the player be allowed to rest in peace.
