Katsina United ends Akwa United streak as Nasarawa United closes gap at top of NPFL table

Kwara United, Rangers, Kano Pillars win

Akwa United’s 18-match unbeaten run was ended at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium by Katsina United in a 1-0 defeat. The Promise Keeper fell to an early Samuel Kalu penalty as Katsina United picked up a valuable three points that takes them up to 14th in the league. Akwa United remains in first place with 53 points.

Nasarawa United cut the gap between them and Akwa United to just one point after they defeated Rivers United 2-1 in their NPFL Matchday 29 encounter at the Lafia Township Stadium. Chigozie Obasi opened the scoring with a superb strike for the Solid Miners before Tochukwu Udeh added a second for them. Godwin Aguda pulled one back from the penalty spot for Rivers United, but they were unable to find an equaliser. Nasarawa United remains in second place on 52 points, one behind Akwa United.

Michael Ohanu scored a 7th-minute winner for Kwara United in their 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars at the Kwara State Sports Complex. The Afonja Warriors’ win over Sunshine Stars leaves them in fourth place on the NPFL table, only four points behind Akwa United and one point outside the top three.

Rangers picked up an impressive away win at Warri Wolves in their NPFL Matchday 29 encounter at the Ozoro Poly Stadium. Christian Nnaji scored the only goal of the game in the 68th minute for Rangers, who are in 7th place on the NPFL log.

Kano Pillars defeated a stubborn FC Ifeanyi Ubah side 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna thanks to a goal by David Ebuka Odenigbo. The win keeps Kano Pillars in third place in the NPFL, just one point behind Akwa United at the top of the league and level on points with Nasarawa United.

The new defeated the old in the Ilechukwu derby as Heartland overcame MFM 2-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. Goals from Chidera Ezeh and Kingsley Maduforo did the job for the Naze Millionaires. Both sides finished the game with 10 men after a clash in the 76th minute, with Kenedinum Nelson of MFM and goalscorer Ezeh of Heartland receiving their marching orders.

Wikki Tourists defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium to move up to 15th in the NPFL log. Idris Muhammed Guda scored from the penalty spot in the 36th minute to give them the win at home.

Abia Warriors FC has lost consecutive home games after Dakkada FC defeated them 1-0 at the Okigwe Township Stadium. Isaac George scored a sensational volley for the Chosen Ones in their away win over the Umuahia Landlords.

Adamawa United picked up just their 5th win of the season on Matchday 29 with a 2-0 victory over Jigawa Golden Stars at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. First half goals from Anayo Emmanuel and Henry Ochube sealed the win for Adamawa United, who remain bottom.

Enyimba and Plateau United played out a goalless draw at the New Jos Stadium in a match marred by the senseless violence of the Plateau United fans on the Enyimba contingent at the end of the game. The LMC is expected to impose sanctions on Plateau United following the dastardly acts of their fans.
