Katsina United stun Rivers United as Ifeanyi Ubah record first away point
In the last two games of Matchday 8, Katsina United locked horns with Rivers United, and Heartland hosted FC Ifeanyi Ubah in an Oriental derby.
Katsina United welcomed Rivers United to the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium having been defeated last time out against Enyimba. They took a shock lead in the 5th minute when Faisal Sani drilled home a brilliant freekick. Boubacar Masally brilliantly doubled their lead in the 19th minute following a solo run from the halfway line for his third goal in the NPFL this season. Nelson Esor scored for Rivers United in the 83rd minute after a goalmouth scramble to set up a tense finish. The match ended 2-1, leaving Rivers United in second place on the NPFL log.
Heartland and FC Ifeanyi Ubah played each other to a standstill at the Dan Anyiam Stadium with a 1-1 draw. Ifeanyi Ubah conceded a penalty after 30 minutes when Evans Obondo was adjudged to have handled the ball, leaving Emmanuel Adachi with the task of burying the penalty to give Heartland the lead. FC Ifeanyi Ubah were gifted an equaliser in the 86th minute when Heartland goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa failed to deal with a cross, allowing Chinemerem Igboeli to stab home from close range. It was Ifeanyi Ubah’s first away point of the season.
