Kelechi Iheanacho a target for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have entered the competition to sign Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho, alongside Aston Villa. SportsRation reports.

Iheanacho, 27, is currently a free agent after his contract with Leicester City expired last month, concluding his seven-year tenure at the King Power Stadium.

Earlier reports indicated that Aston Villa, under the guidance of Unai Emery, had initiated discussions with Iheanacho about a potential move to Villa Park. However, Nottingham Forest has now also expressed interest in the former Manchester City striker, as they seek to bolster their attacking options.

Aston Villa’s pursuit of a striker intensified after Jhon Duran reportedly agreed to personal terms with Chelsea, making Iheanacho a prime candidate to support Ollie Watkins, who had an impressive season with 19 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest struggled offensively last season, with only three teams scoring fewer goals, two of which were relegated. The club’s reliance on Taiwo Awoniyi has been challenged by his injury issues, prompting them to consider Iheanacho as a reliable alternative.

Iheanacho has an impressive record, having scored 42 goals and provided 25 assists in 196 Premier League appearances for Leicester City and Manchester City, averaging a goal contribution every 117 minutes.

Previously linked with Gambian striker Yankuba Minteh, who opted to join Brighton and Hove Albion for £33 million, Nottingham Forest is keen to avoid any Financial Fair Play breaches after facing a points deduction last season. Acquiring Iheanacho could provide the attacking reinforcement they need without violating financial regulations.
