Kelechi Iheanacho Joins Celtic on One-Year Deal

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has signed for Celtic, the Scottish Premiership champions, on a one-year contract. The deal also includes an option to extend for another year.

On transfer deadline day, many people expected Iheanacho to leave Sevilla, as the club no longer needed him. He had been linked with teams in Turkey like Besiktas and Samsunspor, Mexican club Pumas UNAM, and Spanish side Real Oviedo, but no deal was made with any of them.

Later that day, Sevilla announced they had agreed to end his contract. This made Iheanacho a free agent, meaning he could still sign with a new club even after the transfer window closed.

Celtic have now confirmed his signing, taking advantage of his free agent status.

This move marks the fifth club in Iheanacho’s career. He has previously played for Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla, and Middlesbrough. At Celtic, he will reunite with his former Leicester City coach, Brendan Rodgers.

The 28-year-old Nigerian striker hopes to get back to his best form and help Celtic win another Premiership title.

With this transfer, Iheanacho becomes the third Super Eagles player to join Celtic, after Efe Ambrose and Ibrahim Rabiu.
