Kelechi Nwakali shines in Barnsley’s draw against Cambridge United
Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali delivered a standout performance for Barnsley in their 1-1 draw with Cambridge United in an English League One match.
Nwakali started the game on the bench at Oakwell but got an early chance to play when Max Watters picked up an injury just eight minutes into the match.
The 26-year-old, who has struggled for game time since joining Barnsley in the summer, made the most of his opportunity. He recorded an 89% pass accuracy, made five tackles, took two shots off target, and created two goal-scoring chances.
His impressive performance earned him the Man of the Match award, as voted by Barnsley fans.
Nwakali will hope to build on this display and secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. Consistent performances could also help him return to the Super Eagles squad as a regular player.
Barnsley are currently fifth in League One with 26 points from 15 games, six points behind leaders Wycombe. They face Wycombe in their next match on Saturday.
