Kerber beats Halep at WTA finals

World number one Angelique Kerber has secured her second straight win at the WTA Finals with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Simona Halep in Singapore.

The Australian Open and US Open champion, 28, is now almost certain of reaching the semi-finals of the elite eight-woman event.

Kerber beat Slovak Dominika Cibulkova in her first match in the red group on Sunday, while Halep had defeated American sixth seed Madison Keys in her opener.

Keys and Cibulkova meet later on Tuesday.
