NBA Recap: Klay Thompson shines in first NBA match since 2019
Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson made his long-awaited return from injury at the Chase Center in their 96-82 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Klay Thompson had been out injured since the 2019 NBA Finals when he tore his ACL, and in 2020, he ruptured his Achilles while he was recovering from the ACL injury. The 31-year-old Shooting Guard scored the first basket of the game after a powerful run to the rim followed by a layup.
Klay Thompson tallied 17 points with three rebounds and an assist for the Warriors in only 20 minutes on the court, and the other half of their famed “Splash Bros” duo Steph Curry recorded 28 points with five rebounds and five assists. The Warriors are now 30-9 and on top of the Western Conference standings.
LeBron James failed to inspire the Los Angeles Lakers to victory against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Crypto.com Arena. The Grizzlies ran out 127-119 winners to end the Lakers’ four-game win streak since their December 30th defeat to the Grizzlies. James had 35 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Lakers. Desmond Bane led the scoring for the Grizzlies with 23 points in the game.
The Denver Nuggets improved to 20-18 with a 99-95 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Nikola Jokic tallied a double double for the Nuggets with 22 points and 18 rebounds.
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the high-flying Chicago Bulls 113-99 thanks to a triple-double from Luka Doncic. The Slovenian recorded 22 points with 14 rebounds and 14 assists in the game.
The Brooklyn Nets needed overtime to claim a 121-119 win over the San Antonio Spurs. Kevin Durant led the scoring for the Nets with 28 points, while James Harden and Nicolas Claxton had a double-double, each.
The Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 106-93 in their clash on Sunday. Amir Coffey led the scoring for the Clippers with 21 points, five rebounds and three assists.
The Washington Wizards claimed a narrow 102-100 win over the Orlando Magic in the NBA on Sunday. Kyle Kuzma recorded 27 points and 22 rebounds in the game.
The Toronto Raptors defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 105-101. Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam combined for 61 points for the Raptors in the game.
The Minnesota Timberwolves claimed a 141-123 win over the Houston Rockets in their NBA game on Sunday. Karl-Anthony Towns tallied 40 points with nine rebounds and seven assists for the Timberwolves as Jarred Vanderbilt and D’Angelo Russell contributed a double-double each.
The Portland Trail Blazers claimed a 103-88 win over the Sacramento Kings. Anfernee Simons led the scoring for the Trail Blazers with 31 points, and Jusuf Nurkic contributed 14 points and 16 rebounds.
