Kwara Governor Gifts ₦5 Million and Land to Kwara United Players After Historic Cup Win

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has promised each Kwara United FC player a cash reward of ₦5 million and a plot of land after their win in the 2025 President Federation Cup.

Kwara United beat Abakaliki FC 4-3 on penalties at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday, 28 June. The game ended 0-0 after normal time, but Kwara came out on top in the shootout.

This is a special moment for the club from Ilorin, as it’s their first major trophy in over 40 years.

The final match was tight, with both teams having chances to score. Abakaliki FC, who had surprised many by knocking out top teams like Enyimba, Katsina United, Nasarawa, and Ikorodu City, started strongly. Their striker Okoro Chukwudi almost scored early on.

Kwara United’s best chance in the first half came from Junior Aimufua, whose shot hit the post. In the second half, Wasiu Alalade thought he had scored, but his goal was ruled offside.

With no goals in 90 minutes, the match went to penalties. Kwara missed their first spot-kick but scored the next four. Abakaliki missed two of their last three penalties, giving Kwara the win.

Thanks to this victory, Kwara United will now represent Nigeria in the 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup.

Governor AbdulRazaq’s generous reward is a way of thanking the team for making the state proud.
