Kwara United defeat Nasarawa to end first stanza on top, Dakkada hammer Rivers United as NPFL reaches midppint

Abia Warriors, Heartland, Kano Pillars secure wins

The 2020/21 NPFL season reached the midway point, with the league maintaining its high level of competition.

On Saturday, Sunshine Stars and Akwa United played out a goalless draw at the Soccer Temple in Agege as Akwa United momentarily moved to the top of the NPFL, making them the seventh side to reach the summit of the league. Sunshine Stars have the longest winless run in the league, and Akwa United have the longest unbeaten run currently.

On Sunday, Kwara United returned to the summit of the league as two second half goals from Samuel Ganda and Michael Ohanu saw them defeat Nasarawa United 2-0 at the Kwara State Sports complex.

MFM were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Ifeanyi Ubah at the Soccer Temple in Agege. Justice Zachariah opened the scoring for the home side before Lukman Aliyu equalised for the Anambra Warriors to ensure the points were shared evenly.

Kano Pillars picked up their first win over Warri Wolves since 2014 thanks to a penalty from captain Rabiu Ali as the game ended 1-0. The 40-year-old Ali has now scored 7 goals in the NPFL this season for Kano Pillars. They move into second place, level on points with Kwara United.

Dakkada FC defeated Rivers United 4-2 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. Goals from Emmanuel Charles, a Musa Bashiru brace and a Christian Ekong freekick were enough for the Chosen Ones, while Nelson Esor scored twice for Rivers United in the game.

Wikki Tourists defeated Katsina United 3-1 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. Manu Garba opened the scoring for the home side before Joseph Atule equalised for Katsina United. Garba added a second, before Stephen Chukwude scored the third goal for Wikki Tourists.

Lobi Stars secured a 2-1 win at home to Jigawa Golden Stars thanks to a brace from Chinonso Okonkwo, while Ibrahim Umar scored a consolation goal for the away side.

Abia Warriors bounced back from their defeat last time out with a 2-1 win over Plateau United at the Okigwe Township Stadium. Paul Samson opened the scoring for the home side before Ibrahim Mustapha Yuga equalised from the penalty spot for the visitors. Godwin Obaje scored his 7th goal of the season to secure the win for Abia Warriors.

Heartland defeated Adamawa United 2-1 at the Okigwe Township Stadium. Samuel Nnoshiri opened the scoring for the Naze Millionaires from the penalty spot before Emmanuel Ogbuagu equalised for Adamawa United. Emeka Atuloma scored the decisive winner for Heartland.
