Kwara United Overhaul: 22 Players Out, 23 New Recruits In for 2024/25 Season
Kwara United has initiated a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, releasing 22 players and bringing in 23 new signings.
Bashir Badawiy, the General Manager of Kwara United, confirmed these changes during a press briefing in Ilorin. He emphasized the club’s commitment to improving their standings and competing for top honors in the league.
“We as management are doing everything possible for us to have a good campaign in the coming season,” Badawiy stated, expressing gratitude to fans for their unwavering support.
Among the new recruits are standout players such as Abayomi Samuel from Shooting Stars SC (3SC), Jimi Iteji from Plateau United, and key players from NPFL champions Enugu Rangers, including Kazeem Badmus, Adamu Abubakar, and Ifeanyi Ogba.
These additions are expected to bring both experience and skill to the team, bolstering their chances for a successful season.
Badawiy urged the players to maintain discipline and align with the club’s philosophy. “Our expectation in the 2024/25 NPFL season is to finish among the top three clubs. We don’t want to struggle again; check our records in the last two seasons, we were among the top four and even qualified for continental competitions,” he added.
Kwara United is also set to participate in the Valuejet Preseason Tournament in Ikenne, Ogun State, which will serve as a preparatory phase for the new season.
This tournament will allow the new players to integrate with the existing squad and provide the coaching staff with an opportunity to fine-tune their strategies.
The decision to overhaul the squad reflects Kwara United’s ambition to remain competitive and improve on their past performances. The management’s proactive approach highlights their dedication to achieving greater success in the NPFL.
Furthermore, the Kwara State government has assured that the Ilorin Township Stadium will be upgraded before the new season begins, ensuring that the team has a top-quality venue for their home games.
