Kylian Mbappe scores as Real Madrid beat Sociedad
Kylian Mbappe continued his excellent form, scoring for the second consecutive match as Real Madrid secured a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena in La Liga’s Round 5 clash on September 14, 2024.
The first half saw Real Madrid struggle against a determined Sociedad side. The hosts dominated early on, with ex-Manchester City winger Sergio Gomez forcing a stunning save from Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Sociedad came agonizingly close multiple times, hitting the woodwork three times—most notably through Luka Sucic and Sheraldo Becker—keeping Madrid on the back foot.
Despite Sociedad’s control, Madrid turned the game around in the second half. Vinicius Junior opened the scoring in the 58th minute, converting from the penalty spot after Arda Güler’s blocked effort led to the decisive foul. Sociedad’s frustrations grew after missing their chances in the first half.
Kylian Mbappe added the second goal in the 75th minute, confidently dispatching another penalty after Vinicius was fouled in the box. The French superstar sent Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro the wrong way to seal the win for Los Blancos.
