La Liga: Akor Adams reacts after scoring two vital goals for Sevilla in Elche draw

Akor Adams has spoken of his happiness after scoring twice for Sevilla on his return from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.

Sevilla came from two goals down on Monday night to earn a 2-2 draw away at Elche, with the Nigerian striker making a huge impact after coming on at the start of the second half. The result gave Sevilla their first La Liga point of the year and ended a difficult run.

Adams immediately changed the game after his introduction. He scored his first goal in the 75th minute with a calm finish from close range to give Sevilla hope. In added time, the 24-year-old completed the comeback by firing a penalty into the top of the net.

After the match, Adams said he was pleased to help the team after returning from international duty.

“I’m back for the game after a long tournament. The team needed me, and it’s good that the coach gave me some playing time to bring energy to the team and get the draw,” he said.

The forward also felt Sevilla had done enough to win the match, despite settling for a point.

“I think we missed a few small details. We played a good match that we should normally have won. Elche are a good team, but we created many chances and I think we could have won,” Adams added.

Adams was quick to shift attention away from himself and towards the team’s progress.

“The most important thing is the team. I watched all the matches when I was away and the results were not what we wanted. We got a draw, I scored, and I’m very happy for the team. Now we are focused on what comes next,” he said.

The draw ended Sevilla’s losing run and helped them move further away from the relegation places. Adams now has five league goals this season and could be a key figure as Sevilla aim for better results in the second half of the campaign.
