Lakers Announce Bronny James Assigned to South Bay Lakers for G League Action
The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that rookie guard Bronny James will be heading to the G League. He will join the South Bay Lakers ahead of their four-game road trip, starting with Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic.
This move means Bronny is expected to remain with South Bay for the duration of the trip, which ends on Saturday with a key Western Conference clash against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The decision comes after James delivered his best NBA performance last Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks. With several regulars sidelined, Bronny stepped up, scoring a career-high 17 points off the bench. He also added five assists, three rebounds, shot an impressive 70% from the field, and made half of his three-point attempts.
Despite playing just six minutes late in the game during Saturday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls, Bronny has shown flashes of his potential. Lakers head coach JJ Redick spoke highly of his character and development since joining the team.
“Since day one, I’ve been impressed with Bronny,” Redick said. “He’s handled the pressure well and continues to be a class act on and off the court. It was clear to me this summer that he’s an NBA player.”
Bronny James, son of Lakers superstar LeBron James, has faced plenty of attention early in his career. But the Lakers believe regular playing time in the G League will help his growth as he works to secure a bigger role with the main squad.
For now, the focus is on his development with South Bay as the Lakers push for a top-five spot in the Western Conference standings.
