Lamia Boumehdi wins CAF Coach of the Year Again
Lamia Boumehdi has been named CAF Women’s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive time, continuing her rise as one of the most respected figures in African women’s football.
The Moroccan coach, who leads TP Mazembe of DR Congo, was honoured at the 2025 CAF Awards gala. Her selection came ahead of Nigeria’s Justin Madugu and former Spain coach Jorge Vilda.
Boumehdi’s back to back recognition follows TP Mazembe’s CAF Women’s Champions League title in 2024 and a third place finish in 2025. CAF officials praised the structure and identity she has given her team over the past year when announcing the award.
The decision, however, sparked debate on social media. Madugu had guided the Super Falcons to a dramatic comeback win in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final, extending Nigeria’s record to 10th title. His omission from the top prize led to disappointment from the coach himself and criticism from fans who felt his achievements deserved stronger recognition.
Despite missing out on the coaching award, Nigeria still left the ceremony with notable honours. They got recognition in the best goalkeeper and national team categories. Morocco, meanwhile, enjoyed a better night overall, collecting multiple awards on home soil.
