Lampard reveals why he didn’t start ‘fantastic’ Pulisic against Liverpool
Frank Lampard has revealed his reasons for not starting Christian Pulisic whom he considered a fantastic player.
Chelsea’s Frank Lampard lost 3-5 to Liverpool at the Anfield Stadium on Wednesday when a win could have secured their places in the 2020-2021 champions league.
The American was subbed on in the second half when Chelsea were three goals down, Pulisic within 10 minutes helped his side to a 4-3 scoreline.
He assisted and scored a goal as Chelsea reduced the deficit to one but Liverpool soon increased their lead back to two with another goal.
Asked about Pulisic’s cameo, Lampard said: ‘Fantastic. ‘Christian would have stayed in the team but he had a small injury in his thigh that kept him out against Manchester United.
‘Today I felt it was a risk to play him for 90 minutes given we have two huge games coming up.
‘When he came on he looked great so i’m really pleased with that in terms of his individual performance. We’ve since that since the restart when he’s been fit and firing he’s looked some player.
‘So as I say disappointed I haven’t been able to start him in the last two games but we’ve got them coming up.’
