Last Team Nigeria member loses in women’s 50kg wrestling quarterfinals

Nigerian contingent ends Olympics campaign with only two medals

Team Nigeria’s last participant at the Tokyo Olympics Adijat Idris fell to defeat at the hands of Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarterfinal of the women’s 50kg wrestling category, ending Team Nigeria’s participation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Aged just 20, Idris was the youngest member of Team Nigeria’s wrestling contingent, and she was defeated after being thoroughly outclassed by Ukraine’s Livach, eventually losing the bout 10-0 and ensuring that she did not progress beyond the quarterfinals of the event at the Olympics.

Team Nigeria has no remaining participants in the Olympics in Japan and has ended up with only two medals, a bronze in long jump from Ese Brume, and a silver in women’s wrestling from Blessing Oborodudu.
