Late Pirates strike condemns Enyimba to defeat
Enyimba was defeated 2-1 by South African side, Orlando Pirates when they faced off in the Matchday 2 fixture of the CAF Confederation Cup at the Orlando Stadium, with the home side scoring a late winner.
Deon Hotto gave the Buccaneers the lead in the 27th minute of the encounter, before Anayo Iwuala drew a foul from the Pirates goalkeeper in the box, and Austin Oladapo coolly slotted home the penalty for the People’s Elephant in the second minute of first half added time. The second half saw Enyimba retreat further and further, allowing Pirates see all of the ball and looking to play on the counter. They eventually got punished late in the game when Tshegofatso Mabaso scored in the 87th minute to seal the points for the home side and ensure Enyimba return empty-handed.
As a result of the win, Orlando Pirates now head to the top of the table with 4 points, with Enyimba in second place on three. Enyimba will now turn their focus to the NPFL where they have a number of outstanding matches to complete.
