Lawrence Okolie wins in heavyweight debut at Wembley Arena
Nigerian-born boxer Lawrence Okolie made a strong start in the heavyweight division by stopping Hussein Muhamed of Germany at Wembley Arena.
Okolie, who weighed in at 260.8 pounds for the fight, made his debut in the heavyweight category after a successful cruiserweight career. He had previously been the WBO cruiserweight champion before losing to Chris Billam-Smith in 2023.
In his first fight as a heavyweight, Okolie faced a tough opponent in Muhamed. The German boxer started the fight aggressively, but Okolie quickly took control. After a few exchanges, Okolie landed a powerful right hand that knocked Muhamed down. Although Muhamed got back up, he was unsteady, and the referee, Lee Every, stopped the fight after two minutes and fourteen seconds.
This victory also marked the beginning of Okolie’s partnership with Queensberry Promotions.
Other notable results from the event included David Adeleye, a Nigerian boxer, stopping Solomon Dacres in less than a round to take the English heavyweight title. Additionally, Sean Noakes successfully defended his English welterweight title with a unanimous decision win over Mathew Rennie, and Aloys Youmbi defeated Lewis Oakford in the third round at cruiserweight.
