Leon Balogun could captain Nigeria against Algeria

Leon Balogun will probably be made provisional captain for Nigeria when they take on Algeria on Friday in a dead rubber 2018 World Cup qualifying match.

This will be the first time ever for Balogun as Coach Gernot Rohr is likely to rest regular captain, John Obi Mikel to keep him fresh for Tuesday friendly game against Argentina.
In the absence of Vice-captain Ogenyi Onazi and Elderson Echiejile, Balogun is seen as the most likely name for the assignment.
Hints about Mikel starting from the bench was provided by Coach Rohr in yesterday’s training when Mikel lined up with Team B in his first training session with the squad.
A decision will however be made by the Coach after the team’s final training session on Thursday in Algeria ahead of Friday’s clash.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Coach of Algeria national team, Rabah Madjer says that the game against Nigeria is not a friendly match for him but the first game of the qualifiers for the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Algeria is bottom of the Group B of the World Cup qualifiers with just a point.
