Leon Balogun to wear protective mask for Eagles games

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun is most likely to be wearing a protective face mask in matches against Algeria and Argentina after another cheekbone injury on duty for his German Bundesliga club Mainz 05.

Balogun suffered the injury at Schalke 04 and was operated on immediately.

He had looked like missing the Eagles forthcoming matches, but he insisted he will be back in action for the national team.

To prove he is fully fit, the 29-year-old central defender was an unused sub as Mainz held hosts Borussia Monchengladbach to. a 1-1 draw Saturday in continuation of the Bundesliga.

Balogun has been outstanding for Nigeria in their last three matches after injury ruled him out of an ill-fated AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa in June.
