Letsile Tebogo sets new 400m PB, emerges as Olympic favorite
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo stunned the track world once again by shattering his 400m Personal Best (PB) with a new world-leading time of 44.29s at the ASA Athletics Grand Prix in South Africa.
Tebogo’s remarkable performance marks him as a top contender for the upcoming Olympic sprint titles in Paris.
The double sprints medallist from Botswana displayed exceptional form as he dominated the race, crossing the finish line well ahead of his competitors. Anthony Pesela, the world junior champion, trailed behind in second place with a time of 45.93s.
Tebogo’s outstanding season started with a bang earlier this year when he set a new World Record of 30.69s at the Simbine Curro Classic in South Africa. This remarkable achievement surpassed the previous records held by Wayde van Niekerk, Michael Johnson, and Usain Bolt, solidifying Tebogo’s status as a speed marvel in the track and field world.
With his latest performance in the 400m event, Tebogo has positioned himself as a top favorite and the strongest challenger to Noah Lyles for the Olympic sprint titles in Paris. Additionally, Tebogo’s impressive time raises speculation that he may even have his sights set on breaking Usain Bolt’s longstanding world record of 19.19s in the 200m event.
