Lewandowski Almost Joined Manchester United in 2012

Robert Lewandowski, one of football’s greatest strikers, has revealed how close he was to signing for Manchester United in 2012 under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

At the time, Lewandowski was making a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund. He shared that Ferguson personally called him, and he was excited about the opportunity.

“In 2012, I spoke with Sir Alex Ferguson,” Lewandowski said on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast. “When he called me, I immediately said, ‘Yes, I want to join Manchester United.’ At that age, you don’t say no to someone like Sir Alex.”

Despite his interest, the move didn’t happen because Dortmund refused to sell him.

“Dortmund told me, ‘We need you; this isn’t the right time for you to leave.’ I was happy at Dortmund, but joining Manchester United back then would have been a dream,” Lewandowski explained.

Two years later, Lewandowski moved to Bayern Munich, where he became one of football’s all-time greats, scoring an astonishing 238 goals in 253 Bundesliga games and winning numerous titles.

Now at Barcelona, Lewandowski has built a career filled with achievements. While Manchester United fans can only imagine what might have been, the Polish striker’s journey has cemented his place in football history.
