Libya Vs Nigeria: Match Preview – Can the Super Eagles do a double over the knights?

The second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Mediterranean Knights of Libya is set to take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium near Benghazi, Libya.

ABOUT THE MATCH

The Super Eagles head into the match undefeated in their first three group games. They started their campaign with an impressive 3-0 win against Benin Republic and followed it up with a goalless draw against Rwanda. In their third game, Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Libya, thanks to a crucial goal from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

Dele-Bashiru’s performance in the first leg earned comparisons to Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha. However, interim coach Austin Eguavoen has not confirmed if the Lazio midfielder will start in the second leg, emphasizing that all players are in contention for the starting lineup.

Libya’s Struggles Continue

Libya, currently at the bottom of Group D with just one point, has struggled throughout the qualifiers. After drawing their first game at home against Rwanda, they lost narrowly to Benin Republic and were defeated 1-0 by Nigeria in the first leg. Despite their poor form, Libya will be looking to turn things around and take advantage of home support in the second leg.

Match Officials for the Second Leg

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Cape Verdean referee Delgado Santos Rocha Lenine to officiate the match, assisted by Djêry Gomes Lopes and Jorge Santos Fonseca Aritson. Burkina Faso’s Hamidou Diero will serve as the fourth official, with Somalian Amir Abdi Hassan acting as match commissioner.

Time and Where to Watch

The match will kick off at 8 PM local time on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Fans in Nigeria can watch the game live on NTA Sports 24, AfroSport TV, and beIN SPORTS CONNECT.

The Super Eagles are currently leading Group D, and another win against Libya will boost their hopes of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON. With both teams eager to make a statement, the stage is set for an exciting encounter.

CAN THE SUPER EAGLES DO A DOUBLE OVER THE KNIGHTS?

Based on the first leg performance, Nigeria will start as favourites to win again. However, Libya will look to unsettle the Eagles with fast breaks with the support of the home crowd.

I predict a 1-2 result in favour of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
