Liverpool Edge Closer to Premier League Title After Dramatic Win Over West Ham

Liverpool are now just one win away from lifting the Premier League title after a dramatic 2-1 victory over West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Captain Virgil van Dijk scored a crucial 90th-minute header to secure all three points, sending the Reds 13 points clear at the top of the table with only six games left. If second-placed Arsenal lose at Ipswich next weekend, Liverpool can seal the title with a win against Leicester.

Mohamed Salah, who signed a new two-year contract earlier in the week, delivered a clever pass to Luis Diaz to open the scoring in the 18th minute. But Liverpool couldn’t extend their lead, and West Ham drew level when Andy Robertson turned the ball into his own net.

Despite not being at their best, Liverpool showed resilience in the closing moments. Van Dijk’s towering header from a corner gave them a crucial win and maintained their strong push for the title.

Goalkeeper Alisson returned from injury and was vital in keeping West Ham at bay, producing several key saves – including a fingertip stop to deny Mohammed Kudus in the first half and important saves from Kudus and Jarrod Bowen after the break.

Liverpool also came close to scoring more, with Alexis Mac Allister’s free-kick hitting the bar, while West Ham substitute Niclas Fullkrug also struck the woodwork.

This win also guarantees Liverpool a place in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League.

West Ham, still not mathematically safe from relegation, drop to 17th after Wolves’ win but remain 14 points above the drop zone.
