Liverpool Fans honour Diogo Jota on His would-be 29th Birthday
Liverpool fans have come together once again to honour Diogo Jota on what would have been his 29th birthday. Jota joined the club in 2020 and quickly became a fan favourite. He scored big goals, played with real heart, and helped Liverpool win the Premier League in 2024, along with an FA Cup and two EFL Cups.
The love for him has only grown since his tragic passing in July. Jota and his brother André died in a car crash in Spain, a loss that shocked the football world and left a huge hole in the Liverpool family.
Across the season, supporters have kept his spirit alive. They sing his name at matches, leave scarves and flowers outside Anfield, and wear his number 20 shirt with pride. The club retired the number in his honour, a sign of the impact he made in just a few years.
Liverpool shared their own message today on their X platform:
“Today, as every day, we remember Diogo Jota on what would have been his 29th birthday.
All of our love, thoughts and prayers continue to be with his wife Rute, his children, parents and all of his family and friends, as well as those of his brother, Andre.
Forever in our hearts, forever our number 20.”
For many fans, Jota was more than a player. He was someone who gave everything each time he stepped on the pitch. Forever their number 20, and forever part of Liverpool.
On a personal note, it still feels emotional to see how much he meant to people. You can tell his spirit is still alive in every chant and every tribute.
